Our group began forming in March 2007, with the goal of finding a site within a year. Our first choice is in the Auburn, California area, but some are willing to search within a 10 mile radius of town. The population of Auburn is 12,000, and including the outskirts it's 25,000. So we could end up with an urban site in a small town, or a site on the outskirts of a small town, or a semi-rural site. Two sites under consideration have room for an intergenerational and an elder community. One is a 15 minute walk to all goods & services. The other is within a master planned community, 1+ mile from Old Town. An Auburn City Council member has actively championed cohousing over several years, and all elected & appointed officials support the concept. Our highest priority is sustainable construction: green, environmentally friendly, using solar.
